Easter is Coming!
Easter is coming - will you be celebrating with chocolate eggs? Today I'm going to show you how to write an 'acrostic' poem. Tomorrow I'll read some spring poems to inspire you, on Wednesday more writing tips, Thursday I'll be folding and cutting paper for my poems and on Friday we'll look back at what we've done and see can we make it even better!
Maybe you don't celebrate Easter? In fact the name 'Easter' goes back to the ancient goddess of Spring who looked after all the creatures being born at this time of year.
I think we can all celebrate Spring with a poem.
For an acrostic you start with a word. Any word. It can be your name, a favourite animal, whatever you like. Start by writing the word vertically (downwards). I'm using Easter...

...then you use the letters to start the lines of your poem...
Eggs in the pond, frogspawn
Are wriggling and hatching
Spring is here
Tadpoles...

Can you finish the poem? I always change my mind and cross things out and add other thing in so don't expect your poem to be exactly how you want it at first.
Maybe you'd rather start like this:
Eggs, lots of chocolate ones
Are hiding in the garden
Some in the house...

Now can you write another for Spring?
