I Am Poems

Have you written an ‘I Am’ poem using your favourite animals? Did you try using similes and metaphors? Did you notice the difference between, for example, “I am like a wild tiger’’ “I am as wild as a tiger” (which are both similes) and “I am a wild tiger’ (which is a metaphor)? Somehow saying you are something makes the image really strong.

Today I am writing another ‘I Am’ poem, this time I’m not using animals and I am adding another bit of pattern to the poem too. I think I’ve been influenced by reading Charles Causley’s “I am the Song” where he cleverly swapped words in unexpected ways (I read the poem in the post titled Three ‘I Am Poems to Inspire You).

I Am a River Notes small copy.jpeg

So far my poem goes like this:

I am a river in the mountains

I am a mountain in the trees

I am a tree in a forest

I am forest in a storm

I am a storm raging in the sea

I am the sea flowing into the river.
